Is there any way I could do this? Though SMF is great, it doesn't have all the mods I need, and is teh glitchy beta...

The mods I need are:
[li]Point System (need it to work & survive version changes)[/li]
[li]Shoppe/Store (to buy things for my LARP)[/li]
[li]Custom BBCode (several things I wish to add)[/li]
[li]Photo Gallery[/li]

I know there are several SE>SMF converters, so if SMF gets what I need, I will go back.

Question about converters: What is the extent of what they convert? Is it just the members/categories/posts/forums, or does it also do the themes/templates? I am designing a theme for my board, and it will be hard enough to make it once, but twice will be rediculous...would I have to recreate it?

Hi,

Firstly, a converter doesn't exist for the other way around. However, as long as you backed up your original database (using the upgrade script) then your original tables will be in tact. What you need to do is upload a fresh copy of YaBB SE 1.5.5 and in settings.php set the table prefix to be backup_yabbse_ - that will use the backed up tables.

As for MOD's - the photo gallery bridge for Coppermine and SMF has been done - it's just not in the public domain yet - Jack was working on it.

Custom BBCode - I have no idea what you are looking for but it would be so very easy just to modify Subs.php

The other two you would have to wait for as I doubt they will be out soon!

Also - the SMF converter does convert your theme so you can make a theme with YaBBSE and when you convert back to SMF it will attempt to convert it over too - so you shouldn't have to recreate it again.

Cheers,

Thanks, I'll try that. I think it will work out well.

Ingo

will this work the same way with the Perl YaBB ?

Trekkie101

Probbaly not as its Flatfile you would need to use your backup of its files and point it in the right direction.

If you are asking if there is a converter from SMF to YaBB, the answer is no.  If you are asking if there's a converter for YaBB to SMF, the answer is yes, but it's still in beta.

This is an awfully old topic.

why is that a problem? I thought that was why a forum stored things.
