Cannot completely uninstall a theme

I hope this is the right forum for this, if not, I apologize. I just installed the Vampire the masqurade theme, and ultimately decided I didn't like it. I uninstalled it from the theme administration, but when I went to delete it from my server, I found out it has some weird file called .pureftpd-upload.44c00678.15.698c.764b8b8, located in the images/topic folder that will not let me completely delete it from my server. When I go to change the CHMOD permissions, it also refuses to accept the change. Any help on how to get rid of this will be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Also, before I was able to uninstall the theme, it had apparently also changed the permissions on Themes.php, and I had to go in and change the permissions before I could make any changes to it at all.

i discovered a file similar to that when i upgraded a forum for someone, i just had another look and its gone. when i first noticed it i was unable to delete it, but, cause its gone theres norhing to delete.

is it still there? i have no idea what it is. except that it has something to do with ftp.

Yeah, I just got back home and checked it. It's still there. This really has me kind of worried. I have no idea why someone would put something like that in with the files for a theme, except for some malicious reason.

PureFTPd is an FTP server, and likely the server your web host is running. Those files are created when uploading a file via FTP. Usually these files are removed (as they are meant to be temporary), but if an upload doesn't complete or the server has a minor issue there is a chance those files will stick around.

The theme is NOT to be blamed for this, no such file exists in the archive nor would it be created by SMF in any way. It rather sounds like what Motoko-chan describes.

It's a system file, you cannot remove it, anyway it's not a theme fault.

that explains a lot for me, while uploading an upgrade, the ftp server was constantly disconnecting and maybe re connecting. i finally got everything uploaded only to discover that a lot of files only uploaded partially so i had to visually inspect each file size to make sure the whole file got there.

i noticed that strange file in several folders as i was uploading but now there gone. thanks for clarifying that, not that i really care cause it wasn't my host. but I'm glad to know what it was.

Yeah, its created when you close your ftp client or lose connection with your site while it is uploading a file.
