HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

SMF Version: SMF 1.0.7
Hi everyone

I hope you guys can help me because I need all the help that I can get.

I'm new @ simple machine and started with the installing process but got stuck on the "Uploading SMF" part.  I use Frontpage so I dragged the files under a file.  I open up the install.php page and it gives me a bunch of codes. 

On the instruction: "If the first page comes up with a dialog requesting FTP information this is because you are running on a Unix-like server."

It doesn't look like I'm running on a unix-like server but it looks like a pure html format.

It doesn't help much when I try to convert it to a html file, it's all jibberish. 

I have no idea what to do next.  I try reading the instuctions over and over again and wonder if I should CHMOD'ed to 777 on the files, etc.  (What is CHMOD'ed?)

Please use a proper FTP program rather than Frontpage.

Like I said, I'm pretty new at this.

What kind of FTP and SQL programs that I should use?
