SMF theme modification...index.template...HELP

Wow.

Ok so....

I have been working on the index.template for the past few hours...ive already done alot of modification to the site's CSS and im using a custom skin...everythings going fine for the most part...

Then I made a change and took out one line:

And replaced it with Quick User Info:

That didnt work so then i put "echo 'Quick User Info:';

Seemed to work but with errors...

Went back and tried to fix it by re-adding the line i took out, but that didnt seem to help, still errors. Then, when that didnt work I replaced the whole template(losing all my changes i had already made) with the origional from the skin i was using....

This did NOT fix it!!!??? What the heck? I'm lost now...cant access anything and now even errors dont show...which is also weird because they were showing before.

Suggestions? Is there any way i can salvage all the work ive done so far, or do i have to reinstall the skin/or reinstall SMF?

I added quite a bit of custom user groups and things that took me hours.

what is the exact error you get, would help loads in order for us to help.

Origionally it was something like "parse error...syntax blah blah, you may have a ' in the wrong place."

Then there were options to click, use the default template. I clicked that and now I get...

"Unable to load the 'Errors' template."

did you modify the default theme directly?

re-upload a clean version of the default theme folder overwritting the old ones (Make sure you are uploading the correct version    of your forum( DO NOT upload rc2 files to a 1.0.7 forum or 1.0.7 files to a RC2 forum)

No, I did not modify the default theme, unless the "darkness" theme is using the default template.index

Either way, I replaced the both the default and the one in my template's directory with the origional default file and its still not working. I will try tomorrow replacing the entire directory from the archive.
