Package Installation Problems.

Hi,

As my (phpbb) forum had got hacked back in November and never fixed, i finally got around to sorting it out last weekend.

I came across SMF on the fantistico tool on my webspace (mightily impressed i might add  ) and installed it. i upgraded to 1.1 RC2 so i could get the Theme i wanted to work.


Last night i came across the WoWitem mod and decided to install it, but i fear something went wrong as now anytime i try to download or install a package i get the message "You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!"

Now I'm not much into scripting but i do have some common sense so i have done the following:
Tried using the options in the admin panel to chmod the files.
chmod'd them myself
use the "find and repair any errors" tool in the admin panel
deleted everything in the packages folder
deleted the packages folder
reinstalled the "SMF 1.1.rc2 update" from the download section of this site and running upgrade.php
tried chmod'ing the files and folders again.

still no joy - although i have noticed that since i tried running the upgrade again, I'm still getting the error but when checking on my ftp the files are downloading, i just cant apply them.

can anyone help?

Try this. Review the files that the mod wishes to change, chmod them all to 777 (please remember to change them back to the original permissions though!) and report back with any errors.

The details of the files that the mod is seeking to change are included in the .xml or .mod file of the mod you are attempting to install.
