Creating flow between the pages of your website

I am working on my website, but I am really new to coding and website design. Does anyone have any tips as to how to create a good level of flow from one page of your site to the other? I want my homepage to transition well to my forum, but I don't know the best way to go about this. I imagine I should use css, but I am not positive about this.

Anyone have any tips for a noob?
