I'm trying to decide between SimpleMachines forum and XMB forum, and need to have these features built in, or easily available to mod:

  • Disable registration link on home page
  • Manually register users through the administration panel

Can SimpleMachines do both of these easily? I need to have a new forum setup yesterday!!  :D

1. I'm not quite sure what you mean. You can disable registration from the admin panel. If you just want to remove the link, that can be done easily by removing a few lines of code from the template files. I can provide the code that will need to be deleted if needed.

2. Yes.

Actually, you can disable registration, which means they can only be manually registered through the admin panel.

The registration link will stay there, but when clicked on it'll read "Sorry, registration is currently disabled." You can change that message with any message you want, to customize it.

Hey cool anunlike!! I'm liking the sound of that - will go and install SM forum now. Thanks for letting me know that, the default message is fine.

Will head over and look at PHPbb > SM converters as well now
