another slow loader ...!

My new forum is still very small regarding the number of members and posts (50 odd), no avatars, smileys off, no photos or weighty backgrounds, and yet it takes such a long time to load up, to go from one board or admin setting to another, and I quite often get timeouts and white pages. This forum, the SMF forum, loads up in no time so it's not a browser problem. I've run the forum maintenance tools and repair_settings etc. but that has made no difference. I don't think it's a server problem either as my website is on the same host and is much bigger than the forum but the website loads in 2 or 3 seconds. I've read a lot of the posts here about slowness but no solutions that work - any ideas please?
PS - I'd be happy to PM a link to the phpinfo to a trustworthy helper.

Sorted, I disabled hostname lookups and that makes a BIG difference...
