Well this is my very first attempt at making a wholey original theme (using the default, and classic themes as bases)  I realize that it looks elementary to alot of the themes posted on this site, but I'm a novice at this and can only get better with practice.  I would like your input on what I could do differently to improve as I start my next one.  Bear in mind that I do not have such marvelous programs such as photoshop, I have just downloaded GIMP and am still struggling with how to use it.  I'm in the proccess of trying to make all new custom icons.  Anyway here is the link,

Please give your constructive critism.  :D

Thantos

Nifty! It's clean, and very good for a first! You have potential! hehe!

Question: Did you program that yourself? Or is it possible to make templates/skins on premade templates?

Because I myself would like to make templates, but have NO programming knowledge and don't know where to start?

Thanks!  :D

You can use the default template as a start, modify it, and name the result as your own theme.

But you can't do this on other custom themes, unless the author gives the permission.

I don't suppose there's a tutorial on how to edit the default theme by any chance?  :D

Looks really good especially for a first attempt :D

I started with a copy of the default index.template.php, and a copy of the default css.  I intermingled some of my own coding ( this was mainly a whole lot of trail and error, and several hundred parse errors :P ) until I got what I wanted.  I looked at the classic and babylon themes scripting sort of as a guidline on how to change what to effect different things.  Then I had to do the same thing with the board.index.php, the message.index.php, the diplay.template.php, and the css.  If you look at the stickies at the top of this board there are some good write ups to help you get started.

The only thing php can't do is tell you how much milk is left in the fridge.

InvisibleX I suggest that you try DilberMC, and stop making such rude and unconstructive comments on every other theme that gets released!  Not everybody wants to make themes that all look the same just to please you.  Your tastes seem to be very limited, to what you call professional looking themes, but some folks actually like a bit of variety, as is supported by the number of downloads for themes like Helios Multicolor, SMFOne, Themis and Amber, themes that have set trends rather than just following them.  Themes for which creativity is the keyword.

Dresden, pretty nice graphics and a good start, but have you considered altering the layout a bit so that it looks less like a default variation?  Sure default variations are fine, but they're far from individual.  Put some of yourself into your themes. ;)
