SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
I tried updating 1.0.7 to 1.1RC2 and everything's gone very, er , 'wide'. I tried removing 1.1RC2 and uploading 1.0.7 and I've got the same problem.

I'm currently back to 1.1RC2. Same deal.

Anybody got any ideas? And will they involve mucking about with code?*quivers*

Re-upload all the template files with the 1.1rc2 version

Dave P

It is a bit spacious!

Where are the template files? I just had a quick look through the folders but couldn't see 'em.

(Yep, I'm a frightfully new newbie)

jerm

Sorry about that.
Download this file: SMF 1.1 RC2 - update
Extra it to your desktop, inside the folder you should see one named "Themes"
Upload and overwrite the theme folder you have on your server

Dave P

Thanks, but it hasn't worked. I downoaded the update again and just uploaded the Theme folder but it's still stretchy and spacious.

You are definately missing files. The classic theme shows fine layout-wise, but the images are missing. Use the install package for 1.1 RC2 and upload the Themes dir from it. Your FTP client might be having issues, so you might have to segment your uploads.

When you say 'segment your uploads' (ouch!) do you mean upload the files in the folder individually?

I reckon that's what you mean but want to be sure!

Dave P

I just uploaded the 'Theme' files folder by folder': no joy.

I deleted them and just uploaded the 'default' Theme file: no joy.

What on earth is going wrong?

Dave P

Just did the Classic theme too. Still wonky (the forum's in Classic right now).

Uploads are definately failing. Some of the images that did upload are all messed up. I'd put the blame on your FTP client right now. Try FileZilla, it works very well for me.

Is the FTP client the interface between me & the server? I'm using FTP Surfer, as recommened by my host Streamline.net

青山 素子

Yes, you could say that. I haven't used the program, but it looks to me like it is uploading all files in text mode (breaking binaries like the images).

FTP is pretty much universal, so any good one should work, you might just need to poke around if you aren't used to the program's interface. If you still want to use FTP Surfer, try finding the option to force all transfers as binary.

I've searched around the options but can't find a 'force binaries' option. I'll try another.

Sorry I vanished in the middle of all this last night - I got too frustrated, hit the JD & watched Ghostbusters. As one does.

I just deleted the files from the server in a random attempt to start again.

When I'm done, assuming it doesn't work, I'll post a php.info.

I'm a little confused by the PHP info thing. How does a line in Notepad find out info about my server? I guess i'll find out!

Dave P

BTW: I can't upload through the ftp wotsit, I have to drag to the ftp window. If I try to upload from the ftp thingy the folders don't get uploaded, only the first level (if you know what I mean) files. is that relevant?

xenovanis

It's not usual behaviour. What ftp-cient are you currently using?
