SMF Version: SMF 1.0.7
I have loaded the files up in the ftp and were about to install and got this message when I added the informaiotn I have.

LainaaUnable to connect to FTP server with this combination of details.

Server: Port:
This should be the server and port for your FTP server.
Username:
The username to login with. This will not be saved anywhere.
Password:
The password to login with. This will not be saved anywhere.
Install Path:
This is the relative path you use in your FTP server.

What does this mean and what have I done wrong?
Jesss

I have 1.1.7 version

jerm

The port is the port you used to upload your files with (by default its 21)

Username: username you used when you were logging into your server through the ftp program
Password: same as username, except its your password

Relative path is the path you uploaded your files to.. something like home/...

Can you give me an example on how it should look like please...
As I am not sure what to put there to be honest... is it the home link?

Connect with an ftp program. go into your forum directory. Look at the path it shows for that. Use that path. THe path through FTP isn't always the same as the full server path.

You can also use you FTP program to make the mode changes yourself and avoid having the installer do it.

But now I still get this problem!!! Help me please!!!

I used 'WS_FTP Home 2007' to upload my forum to server: fpt://110mb.com
Then I made dir 'web' in '/' dir, and dir 'forum' in sub-dir 'web'. So, my forum is now in '/web/forum'
I linked to site 'install.php', and there:

   Server: NAME.110mb.com   Port: 21
   Username: hxxp:name.110mb.com [nonactive]
   PW: My PW
Install Path: I think for my forum it's 'NAME.110mb.com/web/forum' but it's not!
And I tried '/home/NAME.110mb.com/web/forum' but it's the same!

   I don't know why...

1. Please don't re-open threads where the problem has been resolved. Create a new one.

If your FTP program shows the forum dir as /web/forum, that is what you want to put in that install path.

I'm having the same problem, my FTP path is: /thewrestlingfanrealm.awardspace.com/forums but if I try to connect with it it declines the connection giving me : Unable to connect to FTP server with this combination of details. How can I fix this?

青山 素子

That particular error means either the server, username, or password is incorrect (most likely the server or username).

Why not just use an FTP program and make the changes manually for now?
