I'm running 1.0.7 right not and I'm curious about your opinions about upgrading.  What were your experiences?  What functionality was the best for you.  Did you have any problems.?  Is there anything in particular I should look out for, or threads that you think were most useful.  There's such a huge plethora of information on this forum, I'm getting lost in all of the threads!  Thank you so much for the input!

1.1 holds a lot of options that quite a few admins seem to really enjoy.  First thing is to always make a backup before upgrading.

I would say though at this point you might want to wait till the public release of RC3, that way you can avoid upgrading twice.  Its with the Charter Members and should be public soon.

Thantos,

Thanks for the reply.  I was drooling over the list of improvements with excitement.  I'll keep an eye out for RC3.

Yes! Always back up!  I wouldn't want to lose a few years of history.  To do the upgrade do you upload the the upgrade package to the existing forum location and overwrite the old files??

Thanks again for the help..

I have not used the 1.0 series of SMF for a long, long time. Truth is most mods and theme's have been written with 1.1 in mind for a long time now.

I run both 1.0 and 1.1 boards (I'll be upgrading the 1.0 to 1.1 soon). I've also played with upgrading. The upgrade is fairly smooth although for large boards it does take some time. The updated theme engine is particuarly nice, and I'm looking forward to customizing a theme for it soon.

As always, make backups because things do happen (power goes out during upgrade, mice eat through your connection to the net, etc).
