Hi,
I am having a problem with spammers joining my forum and posting spam emails. I stopped it my making every new member "activate" their account by first receiving an email and replying to it. I am still getting spammers signing up though. I have noticed that they are coming from 5 specific email address (i.e @mail.ru.com or @cashette.com etc). Is there a way that when someone tries to register with one of these emails that their registration is rejected automatically and won't be processed?

Thanks!
Thanks!

Natasha

Yes, you can ban by email. (*@domain.tld)
I too have had the same problem, but I have been quick enough to ban them before they had a chance to post.

You can set it up so that an admin has to first activate their account before they can start posting

Hi

Setup "Member Approval" in your Admin options.

Admin >> Features & Options >> Method of registration employed for new members = Member Approval.

Using this method will give you, the admin, the ability to Activate new accounts or not ;)

I have been having a problem with spammers over the last month or so also.  I have switched the registration to member approval, but this does not screen for working email addresses.  Now the spammers are using fake emails.

I have been banning IPs daily trying to keep them out.  Any suggestions?  Is there a way to lock out all IP's from certain parts of the world, like anything on the RIPE network?  I get between 2 and 10 spammers trying to register every day.  It is really frustrating.  I am tempted to just lock out everybody for a while to see if they go away.

I have try to ban this address: *@mail.ru.com but smf will not let me.
I get the below error:
Invalid email address / email address range.
Example of a valid email address: [email protected].
Example of a valid email address range: *@*.badsite.com
