Its not like I havent done this before but.......

Ive just uploaded the SMF software to my fourth site. The three time ive done this before its gone without a hitch. This time though I get a page cannot be found error when I attempt to install. I have created a folder on my server named forum and this is where all the files/folders etc are kept. I try and browse to the install file and I get the error message. The path I am using is www.mydomain.com/forum/install.php

Ive chmodded any files that needed chmodding first so its not that :(

Bigguy

Do you see an .HTaccess file anywhere ??? If you do rename it to .htold and see if that helps.

Just checked and I cant even see an HTaccess file friend?

Just in case, using version 1.1rc2

Bigguy

Did you upload via ftp, sometimes ftp won't transfer the files right. re-upload the install.php and see if that helps.

StrangerWithin

Smart FTP is what I use as a rule. Overwrote the install and the file sizes were the same. Overwrote anyway and still the same problem. :(

Gary

Maybe check to make sure that all the files are in the right places, Themes/default/laungauges etc...

Also, from my expirence, SmartFTP has been known to disconnect in the middle of uploading, so you might wanna try uploading the whole thing again with a different FTP Client.

@ Big guy

No link, no nothing, I try to browse to install and get the page cannot be found message.

*hope I understood youre Q properly

@ AwwLilMaggie

Yup, I'm aware of the problems with smartFTP dropping files and uloaded folder by folder as a precaution. As far as I can tell without going through the files with a fine tooth comb they are all there.

Please post a link to your forumlocation.

Probably not this, but the first time I installed smf ages ago, my ftp program had "hide system files" on as default, and some files didn't transfer.

It's worth checking that.

Ok, ive overcome problem one after re-uploading the files a few times. Now onto the second and final problem, logging into my FTP. I always get mixed up with this bit :-[

Someone remind me please ::)

I am at the FTP Connection information request page and I keep getting the error message

"Unable to connect to FTP server with this combination of details."

Am I doing this right here?

Server = Localhost (this is always the case with my server)

Port = 21 (Same as above)

Username = ftp.mydomain.com

Password = **********

Install Path = /Forum

Bit cross eyed now :P

StrangerWithin

Btw: Yes I have chmodded all necessary files :)

Path will be the same path you use when you use an FTP program to connect.

If you chmoded all the correct files, you shouldn't have that screen appear.

That does make a lot of sense, as you said, had the files all been chmodded correctly I shouldnt even be seeing that page. However, to the best of my knowledge I have chmodded them all on my server, These are the files that SMF say need chmodding.

I ihave changed their permissions to 777 in all case including the folders. Ive done this on the server by right clicking each one individually and selecting properties and changing the value to 777.

If this is wrong then I'm not sure what else to do? :(

xenovanis

Can you see a file /Packeges/server.list? This should also be writable.

All I have in my Packages folder is a back up folder, index.php and an installed list

Bigguy

Are they all writable ??? chmod to 777.
