rc2 to rc3 errors--update: ignore this post. figured out my problem.

SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
OK.

SMF 1.1rc2

I tried to update 1.RC2 to the newest version and got the old files error.  I uploaded the files again and now when I try to run the upgrader, I get a blank page.  I fear I may have screwed something up! 

What can I do?  Do I have to do a complete reinstall and will it mess up my boards?

Try getting the information out of settings_bak.php and putting it into settings.php to see if that works

Try re-uploading sources and themes using a different client

I have very little choice. I have also tried uploading separate files and the zipfile itself to the server several times.

Actually, I've seen a lot of failures on unzipping the files on server. It's best to unzip them locally and upload them seperately.
What ftp-client are you using and why is your choice limited?

I am using a key to identify (in contrary to a password) from linux, and don't know any good ftp clients who easily support that except from scp. I can probably find it with a bit of effort, but there's no difference between the local files and the ones on the server once i've uploaded them.
