RC2 -> RC3 - uninstalling mods and bots and reinstalling

Just a general question here:

From what I understand, the practice is to uninstall mods before updating and then reinstalling after update, making sure you have the most recent version and it is RC3 compatible. Got it.

But since I have a customized forum, with a custom theme (started with Xenovanis' 247-PortalBlue, but many changed I made myself), I use a file compare method to upgrade, so that I can pick and choose what I need and what I don't from an upgrade. Now, should I remove the code additions from the previous mods and have the package manager add them again? Or does this not matter?

Also, I am using two (or so) third-party mambots that relate directly to SMF functionality, SMF RecentPosts 1.1 and SMF Discussbot (4.1 beta 4 - I think I had to manually modify this one to get it to work). Do I have to uninstall and reinstall these as well. Same question about residual code for these as well.

I take it the best way to do the mods, at least, is to do a compare to the newest versions on these as well (at least the ones I have changed) and then re-zip the resultant files and use that to install them in the package manager?

Thanks,

You could use a file compare program to update the theme. If there are no real changes for templatefiles regarding the mods, it's safe to leave the code in custom themes and add the packae. Though if there are any changes, it could result in errors.

You'll need to uninstall the bridge and install version 1.16. The discussbot you're using won't work with this version, here is an updated version that will work:

Mods will be uninstalled during the upgrade anyway, because sourcefiles and themefiles are overwritten. It's better to uninstall them before you upgrade though.

Xeno,

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think I was being very clear; I was not planning on updating in the traditional manner.

What I did was use a compare program to compare my current files to the files in the update package. I left all of the code from the mods (Karma Desc., Visual Warn.) in. I guess I'll just look at the source files after I reinstall the mods.

Thanks again,
