Taking forever for threads to load

When I set my forum up a few weeks ago, the threads were loading very quickly.  Now it seems to take upwards of 20+ seconds to get any thread to load.  Does anybody know why this would happen?

Try disabling the basic html option if you have it enabled.

Thanks a lot.  That works nicely.  How come that option slows it down that much?  Do you know?

Cause it tells the forum to render HTMl, which makes the forum have to change everything thats html in a post to actual working; so like having tables in tables causes problems

I have another question that nobody has answered yet on this forum.  I'm trying to change the color to the text next to the topic icons that read "topic you have posted in" "Hot topic" "Normal Topic" and so on.  Do you know how to do this?

If the status is closed, the text is red
