Hey all,

Am trying to upgrade my site, but the connection keeps timing out - 500 Server Errors.

I contacted my server admin and they say it's a scripting problem.

Any ideas as to how we can workaround this?

Thank you!

Have you tried reuploading your source files?

It sounds like some form of corruption.

I reuploaded everything in the update to RC3 and still no such luck.  It goes through (about once in 7 tries) but only until step 2 (around 30%?), and times out again.

I'm really quite at a loss of what to do.

Thanks for the link! ^^ It helped a little.

Installation's moving a smidge - instead of 3 I changed it to "0" (It was originally at 3, and 2 and 1 gave me the same timeout errors), and i'm about 40%, and instead of getting a server time out message, it just.. stops at a blank screen, without any loading.

Is there anything else I could do?

Edited to add:  I'm making some progress, it's stopping at /upgrade.php?step=2;substep=52;s=1 without any explanation. Is there anything I can do (i.e. do substep 52 manually) to get pass this stage?

Is there any way to un-upgrade it? I don't know whether the database has been touched. The site's been inaccessible (I'm using a Mambo-SMF bridge) over the labor day weekend, which has made everyone kinda edgy.

Thanks!

You should have backed up your SQL database before starting the upgrade, thats the one sure way of downgrading when an upgrade goes bad.

Also, normaly the script will have offered you to make an automatic backup of the tables before converting anything, these tables will be stored in backup_table_name format.

If they are all there, delete the smf_tables and rename the backup_tables to smf_tables
