Help!! Installation Roadblock!!

I have Yahoo web hosting for hxxp:www.aoyn.com [nonactive] and the forum we've been using for two years is from Xsorbit.  So basically, I've been paying $5.99 per month for something I should've been running on my own site.  ANYHOW... I have just recently purchased the web hosting, so I'm a rookie at SQL, PHP, and everything else it involves.

-- Downloaded SMF, I unzipped the package.

-- Created a subdirectory on my server called "forum".

-- Sent the unzipped files into the "forum" directory, via FTP.  I also changed the permissions of those files to "777".

-- Used SQL to create a database called "aoyn".

At this point, I go to hxxp:www.aoyn.com/forum/install [nonactive] and I'm struck with a form to fill out.  I enter the correct SQL username, password, database name, et cetera... but for some reason, I am getting the following error...

hxxp:www.aoyn.com/forum/install.php?step=1 [nonactive]

SMF Installer
Cannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.

If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.

Are you sure that you do not need to prefix your username with the db name?

instead of your db being called aoyn - is it not username_aoyn?

with username being your hosted account name.

I have a Yahoo small business web account and I'm trying to setup you message board on there.  I've uploaded all the files through ftp and when I go to my domain http://www.californiarob.tfl/forum/install.php  it errors out saying it doesn't exist.  When I use the url hxxp:www.californiarob.com/forum/install.php [nonactive] it comes up with the SMF Installer and it asks for the FTP Connection Information.  I can't seem to get connected and my website won't let me change the permissions or CHMOD to 777.  I am new to this and don't know what to do.  I would appreciate any help.  Thanks.

localhost wont work for Yahoo. You should ask your host what server you need to connect to.

I already got the forum installed.

Now I need to learn how to transfer my backup from my Xsorbit X5 board... to the new SMF forum.  Nobody around here seems to know how to do that.

Does anybody know how to transfer a backup from a Xsorbit forum to a SMF database??

Looking at the service, they might be using YaBB, but it is hard to say (I don't know that system too well). Try asking about a converter over in the converters area.
