Permission by membergroup...

When you modify membergroups it gives you the opportunity to pick which boards are visible.  It would be nice, when setting up permissions by membergroup, if it was possible to set the permissions you want then apply them to multiple boards which are set to local permissions at one time.

Example:  I have about 20 boards.  Many of them are strictly for one group to see.  The others don't even get a chance to view them.  Even at that, they are read only, strictly for content delivery which I use SSI to distribute throughout password protected pages.

Of the remaining boards, one of them is open to anyone registered.  The others vary in what permissions are available to users based on groups.

So as you modify permissions via membergroup, it has all the permissions with checkboxes next to them.  It would be great to have a list of the boards down below with checkboxes too, so when you set permissions, you can apply them to selective boards.

Yep I second this one.

having multiple check boxes per group in the board permissions area. something like read-only, view board but can't enter, password, read/write.

Remember that board access is not related to permissions..
Your 20 boards do probably not need local permissions, especially if they are all read only.

The permissions system is a lot simpler in the DE though.

You missed the point of when I mentioned board access.  I was only referencing that as a means of comparison, saying you can pick the boards that are visible to each membergroup as you create or edit a membergroup.  I know that's different than establishing permissions.

It would be nice as one is creating or editing membergroups if you could assign permissions then apply them to boards via a checkbox.  Say I wish for boards 1-3 to have one set of local permissions for membergroup A but different set for membergroup B.  Then say boards 4-5 have different permissions for A and even a different set for B.  I actually have 37 boards, and each group has a very different set of permissions.  They all have to be local for me.

You know where you pick Global permissions by membergroup?  You have Administration permissions then Global permissions.  Below that should be the roster of Boards with checkboxes.  I'd like to pick a set of permissions for a membergroup then decide which boards they apply to.  Then I'd like to pick another set of permissions and apply them to different boards.  I'd like to do all of that on one page instead of having to do it one board and one group at a time.  (They can't be Global permissions on my forum.)

Okay. Well it's much easier in the DE. You'll have to wait for it ;)

What's the DE?

And whatever the DE is, can we make sure the Paid Subscriptions mod works.

All that said, I figured out LATER...duh...of course...that when you set up a new membergroup or edit it, you can assign it permissions based on other groups.  That helps.  A LOT.

Jim R

Oh.  Cool.

How will that be different overall?  What will the DE provide users?

Thanks.

Dannii

Lots of stuff, but they're secrets :P
