G'day

I am running some forums now on 1.0.8 and some test forums on RC3

I have read that some people have had troubles upgrading from 1.0.8 to RCS concerning bad files / P.M.'s etc...  So I have gone against that idea of upgrading.

I have not found any errors on RC3 and am thinking of convering some of my public sites over.

If I install new forums of RC3 (like i have done with my test ones), is there a way of copying my database / forum structure / posts / pm's etc from the 1.0.8 over to RC3??

Or is this just as unsafe as upgrading the forum from 1.0.8 to RC3??

I just though by Installing RC3 and then copying the Forums Posts over may be more easy, and reliable?

Any Thoughts?

Chris.

I doubt that would work (although I have never tried)

There are fundamental changes in the database structure between 1.0.8 and RC3 so just copying the posts over would fail.

RC3 issues are being worked on at the moment, but remember that it is still not a Final issue.
SMF 1.1 Final is not a million miles away from being released and personally I would recommend waiting for the Final release. All RC3 bugs and niggles should be resolved when 1.1 Final goes live.

Ok, thanks for that, i think i will wait.

Will their be a upgrade from RC3 to 1.1 and also 1.0.8 to the new 1.1??  or will 1.1 be a new stand alone version requiring a new install?

I know a piece of string can be pretty long or short depending on which way you look at it, but do you have any idea on how long 1.1 is away?   1 month, 6 Months, a Year or two?

I know it is a rough idea, and am just interested....

P.S. I use to use phpBB heaps, and SMF totally kicks compared to any of the other forums...

Hi,

There will be a full suite of upgrade options for SMF 1.1 including previous RC versions and the SMF 1.0.X line :)

No date has been set for release because the Dev Team are incredibly professional about making sure that the Final copy is as close to perfect as it can possibly be.
