I would like to know if it would be possible to allow the user to choose what language they want the interface in? I.E. members who prefer to use spanish use spanish while members who prefer english keep it in english?

You've to activate it in the admin area. Please search for this option.

How do I add additional languages? I would see that only english is installed when I activate this feature

I have it activated in the admin area but English is still the only language that shows up.

Is there a way that the user can change it with out going into the profile? I.e a guest can just click choose an option on a page to get it in spanish?

Download additional languages from http://www.simplemachines.org/download.php

it worked! thanks!

i noticed that the images are not there for the buttons that is, but yet I had to upload image files, can you advise?

But it's only 2 clicks inside your profile and job done.

Or do you mean to view one board in Spanish and then the next one in English etc?
I guess you could come up with a template in spanish by removing the user/language elements and just use the "manage board" option to display only that template?

Here is what I mean...

By default everyone sees the board in ENGLISH... the group is Bilingual (meaning some speak only english/some only spanish/some both)....  I would like to have it so that guests can see the boards and options in their choice of languges, including SPANISH... with out having to register... It would be like they could possibly hit a button or choose from a drop down that they want to have it in a non-english languge

Fizzy

I get you.

How about setting up a parallel board, one in English and the other in Spanish? Both feeding from the same database.

Technically, could that be done on SMF?

So there is no way to have a selection of languages out side of profiles? Could it be atleast added to the registration section?

Ben_S

You could easilly add it to the registration page yourself. I see little value in it being in the main distribution though as most boards are based on a single language.

Already possible in the cvs versions. (has been for a few weeks now.)

Here, for example... just add ?language=spanish.

nice... if you need it like that, then you can have a dropdown menu with the different languages in the url's query... just like with themes...

[Unknown], are they sticky like themes are now?

edit: yes, just tried it (^^;)

Rather than trying to explain that to newbies though, is there a way to add the dropdown asked for earlier to the main page?
