SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC3
Greetings

I just finished upgrading from SMF 1.0.8 to 1.1RC3.

Whenever I attempt to apply or uninstall a package, I get the following message...

"Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have
installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF."

Also, I used to "optimize tables to improve performance" every 3-4 days and there would only be a few tables that would need optimized and now after the upgrade, I can optimize tables every 10 minutes and there's like 17-20 tables that need optimized as you can see below...

Optimize all tables to improve performance.
Your database contains 117 tables.

Is there a problem here and how do I correct it?.

- Thank you, SD

Which mod are you trying to install?

Thank's for replying. Right now I'm more concerned about so many tables needing to be optimized. Just now when I "optimized tables to improve performance", it optimized all 117 tables and this NEVER happend when I was using v1.0.8 or previous versions.

When installing a mods you dont need to optimise the tables, since more often than not, mods effect the files themselves. Some effect the database, but even then, tables wont need optimising.

Sorry, I should have been more clear earlier. What I'm talking about now has nothing to do with MODS and I don't currently even have any MODS installed. What I'm talking about is the fact that (wether I "had" to do it or not) I always go in ever few days and optimize the table and I am specifically wonder why so many tables are now needing to be optimized after the upgrade versus the very few tables that would need to be upgraded prior to the upgrade.

Really there is nothing to worry about. Sometimes tables need optimising and sometimes they don't. If they don't optimised then they're fine as they are.

Think of optimizing as a compression option. Every time a new post is made, it takes some room up in the database. MySQL has to increase the size of the table to hold this. If a post is deleted, that space is just sitting around unused. Optimizing gives back that space and makes the tables a little faster.

If you notice, the two tables you gave in your paste are tables that change frequently (sessions and who is online). Those aren't big concerns unless the size changes hugely and you want to clean up the table. If about the same amount of data is being added as is being removed, you don't have much to worry about. If the forum slows down, then optimize. Unless your board is very very active (1000+ posts a day) once a month is more than enough.
