SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC3
As well as my forum, I use the webspace to host a few folders with various bits and bobs on.  I wanted to delete the contents of a folder last night so did a select all and hit delete.  It seemed to be taking ages and when I looked at the screen the horror hit me - I'd done a select all in the /public_html/ folder.  How stupid am I?

In terms of backups I've got one I did from the SMF interface a few weeks ago and an up to date backup of the SQL database downloaded from my host.

The first thing I tried was uplodaing all of the source files, and manually editing Settings.php to point to the intact SQL database, but it said couldn't connect to the database.  I cleared all of the SQL databases and created a new one, and installed SMF from scratch onto a new database, which worked fine.  I then replaced the new database with my backed up one - which has all the same settings but it then said it could not connect to it.  Using 1.1 RC3.

Is there any hope for restoration?

all is not lost. if you have an sql backup, treat it like your moving to a new host and use these instructions:
