SMF Version: SMF 1.0.8
I am currently testing my SMF especially in retrieving password thru clicking the "Forgot your password?" from  the login page. After clicking the link, I was asked to enter the user/email address. Upon clicking the send, I got this error:
Lainaa
Database error
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to
an administrator.

I have set on the Forum Configuration > Edit Features and Options > Basic Forum Features the SMTP server address and SMTP Server Port to the SMTP server that we have but still this error occur. Need help on this.

i too had something similar happen to me working on another forum.
you'll have to check what the 'mail_type' is in php myadmin.

smf_settings , check the variable box and click browse, you may have to click over a page or two, but look for "mail_type" if it doesn't say sendmail, check the box and click the pencil to change it to sendmail, click go, then try the lost password feature again.
keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

Sorry but I cant get what you mean. Where do I need to check the mail_type?

sawz

the only reason i suggested the mail_type is because i had the same problem on two different forums.
are you familiar with php myadmin?

mpMS

not familiar. I am really new to PHP & MySQL. Do I need to install the php admin? If yes, how?

Btw, I am using PHP 5.

sawz

php myadmin administers your databases, you can access it through your website control panel.
read what i posted above about smf_settings and explore a little.
