ok, i tried making the edits to style.css and it didnt work. i searched here and found several posts, but only one that was really of any use. that post was from 04 and suggested editing the index.template in 3 spots which worked for that person. do i need to go through that to get a background image? i thought a simple edit to the style.css would suffice. thanks for the help

here is what i edited in the style.css
/* The main body of the entire forum. */
body
{
  background-image: /refugeimages/advantagecamo.jpg;
background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-color: #ffffff;
margin: 0px;
padding: 12px 30px 4px 30px;
}

jacortina

#1
background-image: url(/refugeimages/advantagecamo.jpg);

Path may need tweaking. Try to make it relative to the theme's directory.

I use url(images/bkgrd.gif) to get it from the theme's images directory.

RBH

ok, that half worked. i placed the image in my themes image folder and made the adjustments you suggested. the image shows now but only on the top part of the forum. i thought with the repeat part in there it would continue on down the forum. what do i add to make it fit the whole background top to bottom?

jacortina

background-repeat: repeat-x;

Says only to repeat in the x-axis. replace with

background-repeat: repeat;

RBH

lol....ok, repeat-x tiles it horizontal and repeat-y tiles verticle.........i will keep tweaking and see what i can do, thanks a bunch for the help! ;D

RBH

ooooops, posted at the same time. ok, i will try that.....thanks

EDIT: worked as advertised.......thank you very much!

I used this text to make a solid colour background, I just deleted the image line. But if I were to use an image does it have to be a pacific size? I was thinking of using a textured image.

jacortina

It can be any size. Make textured 'tile' (so edges match up) of whatever size you want and just include the:

background-repeat: repeat;

in the style for the body (well, you can use it for the background of most elements, but if you're looking to put a textured background on the page as a whole, body is the place for it).
