Hey everybody,

I have a certain forum where users can post news...however, I want to approve their posts before they become visible on the board.  All of the other forums of course will not require approval, just moderation.  Is there a function in SMF that will allow me to do this for the news forum or will someone have to make a MOD for it?  And, how hard would it be to make a MOD?

Thanks for your help!  :)

I really need something like this for a new project I'm working on.

Is there any chance of getting a mod like this?

nwebmoo

I also need this. In fact I'm really surprised it isn't included as standard because this is a pretty common feature of message board systems these days, and rightly so. There are lots of reasons why you might need topics/posts to be pre-approved.

Can someone from the SMF development team comment on their position on this issue? I'd be interested to hear what their thoughts are.

This feature is already implemented by default to the next version of SMF, after 1.1 final. But unfortunately in 1.1, it won't exist and the release after 1.1 is not very soon for now.

tatore

I need the same mod too, to apply it on specific boards..please :D

Hello,

I am new to this forum. This feature is how I found your site using Google. I would like to start using SMF as soon as possible, but I need this important anti-spam feature. Thank you

NEMINI

you'll have to keep waiting, as stated above it is not available right now but will be in the next major SMF release.
signatures are boring.

I think this could be done by moving threads to a board that is only visible for gmods/admins, and tagging them with the board they were created in. They could then easily be displayed in a queue for approval. Allowing regular moderators to have access to threads that are posted to their local boards would require more modifications (not a priority for me atm).

I am planning to create a mod that puts topic starts that are done by new members into an approval queue, which is quite similar functionality. I could do both in one mod.

Right now I can't say when i will get this done, since there's a pile of things i need to do as well in the short term. It might take me 2 weeks, or 2 months.

Ok, i need some input for creating the mod. What functionality do you need exactly? I'm not going to spend a big amount of time on this, because it's already being done for the next release of SMF, but that could take 6-9 months before it's released (random estimation).

current list of wanted features:

administrative
-configuration of boards that require topic approval
-selection of a board to move new unapproved topics to
-configurable permissions to access approval queues
access by permissions
-list unapproved topics with checkboxes to approve / disapprove
-send a message to the member on approval/disapproval (with reason of disapproval).

do we want any of the following?:
-configure membergroups that require topic approval, regardless of board
-configure a minimum nr of posts that members need in order to bypass the approval queue
-possibility to give local mods access to an approval queue for their local boards
-approval of single posts (but how to keep topic in order without losing relevance of posts?)

I will try to implement as much features as i can, but won't promise anything.

If this could be extended to set new registrations to be post-modded would be good whereby new members are kinda vetted before they are allowed to post

i suppose this would fall under

I'm not sure about individual posts, if these are send to an approval queue, it should apply to all posts on a certain board. Or do you mean you'd like em to be marked after being posted, and listed in some moderation queue (so they're automatically 'approved' when posted, but could be checked on (and deleted) easily by going thru this queue).

Erm, well I guess that would be something, but as usually happens with this kind of thing, moderated users would quickly find out that they could just post as many times as possible just to push their post count up and override the pre-moderation.

I personally think it would be better to be a manual process, or even better for the whole community it this could be set to either in the admin panel then other users can choose which they prefer

Thanks for listening

Ok, I'm haven't made my mind up about approval of individual posts yet. If enough people request it, i will add it as an option.

about permissions:
i think only local mods and gmods should be able to have access to this feature. Administrator can decide which of those he wants to give access by setting a permission.

displaying the queue:
I'd say displaying the topic starts as normal posts (with full body text) with a configurable number to display at the same time would be easiest. Each will have a select box where the user can select what to do with the topic. Choices could be:
-Approve Topic
-Approve and move to -- [display list of boards]
-Disapprove and send message --[display list of default messages] + [textarea for custum message]

A boardfilter will be available.

You do know one option of this could end up being something like:

1) Follow a similar coding structure for the "View own topic" modification (Found in the Tips and Tricks board)
2) Add new names for the variables and such, leading to have the option of tagged topics; Accepted, denied, unreviewed
3) Set board so all normal members can only post unreviewed topics, cannot view denied
4) Simply add "Accept" and "Deny" buttons at the bottom of unreviewed topics.  Clicking them changes the topic type.

Old idea, isn't too-too complex for a decent coder.

reading his q/a i don't think this approach is problem-free, since there might still be ways to access the topic. Other modifications will ignore the tags if they use custom queries.

However, I do like the idea to display the topics in the topic overview, so I'll look into that .

Is this new version ready within a few months or what? I also need this feature of approval of posts before posting!! PLEASE!! :-)

Abangyarudo

I'd like to have the option of approving individual posts if its possible since I run a systematic role play board sometimes people mess up. Thank you in advance if its possible
