Best Recommendations

Hello,

I am trying to make my mind up about downloading an older version of SMF or waiting around for the new 1.1 version to officially hit the internet.  Am I wasting time by waiting?  Or is it a good idea to wait?  The main reason I have been waiting is because I really don't want to waste time learning things twice -- different versions, different methods, different outcomes. 

I currently have a forum at ProBoards.  Need to find something else.

BTW, How long is it going to be before the new 1.1 version comes out?  Days, Weeks, Months?

Go with 1.1, there are going to be very few changes between that and final and it's stable enough to use.

I am very (VERY) new to this.  Played with 1.0.8 for awhile, testing things, trying things, learning things... very nice and easy (I like easy!).  Really got the itch to try 1.1 RC3, but was afraid of screwing something up.  But I finally bit the bullet and upgraded.  Like I say, I'm real new, but I have not had one single problem I can attribute to SMF  (haven't had a problem at all I don't think!).  Just made my board live (started advertising and linking it.. I guess that's all you do to make it live eh?)  But as for me, I would tell anyone don't hesitate to use 1.1 RC3.  It's very nice.   BUT if you choose to start with 1.0.8, the differences in admin functions are not that great... just a quick mindset change on where to look for things... laid out much nicer actually imho.  but go for the 1.1...  you'll be happy with it.

Well, I have downloaded the 1.1 version and an FTP client.  I contacted my host (jumpline) and they suggested two clients -- CuteFTP and WU_FTP.  I did research -- CuteFTP costs after 30 days.  As for WU_FTP, I wasn't able to find info.  Is the name right?  Anyways, I downloaded SmartFTP... is this a good one?  I haven't been able to figure out how to use it properly, though.  It calls for two different items in the same box.  1.) ftp.mydomain.com and 2.) ftp.myhost.com  What is wrong with this picture?!!!  I figured I would come here first before going to SmartFTP or Jumpline, I guess, to make sure I am using a good FTP client.  And to see if there is anything else I need to take into account.

It's actually WS_FTP I think, its what I use. SmartFTP is a good choice I used to use it before I started to use WS_FTP, but for some reason it kept disconnecting. You take a look at WS_FTP at http://ipswitch.com but its a trial and worth a shot.

Thanks for the help, everyone.  The forum is up and running.  I would like to say that the installation was painless, but I can say if I had to do it again, then I might be able to describe the next time as painless.  I installed the 1.1 version and I have no regrets.
