md5_hmac vs sha1

Hello,

what i am interested in is the reason for the change from md5_hmac-function (smf-1.0.*) to sha1-function (smf-1.1.*) for password encryption. I was not able to find anything related in the changes.txt files or with the forums search option.

md5 has been cracked and is less secure than sha-1. That's the main reason.
