Hi,

My site is http://www.multimontreal.com

It's been online for a month now... I have all my meta tags set right, I have a robot.txt, I have a site map (with 1 link in it... my main page) submitted to google, I have several pages linking back to my site and yet I am not indexed on google !! :(

I am indexed on Yahoo... But not google.. Am I missing something ?

AND how do you create sitemaps of your whole forums in links that google will accept ?

Jacen

Make sure to turn on the SEO feature (under features I think). "Use friendly URLs"

Other then that, be patient. Google will get to you when it finds your link somewhere. I'm forever banning Google from MY forums.
"I've always found that sticking your fingers in your ears and humming loudly solves a whole slew of problems."

ramystyle

It was already checked !!
But I just noticed the following message :
Quote
This changes the format of URLs a little so search engines will like them better. They will look like index.php/topic,1.html.

This feature will not work on your server.

That's very strange.. My host supports Apache http://www.sellwebhost.com/test.php

Anyone know how what I need to change from my host for this to work ?

Jacen

Supports apache? You mean uses?

Regardless... You need to contact your host about it

Your host must use Apache, and have mod_rewrite enabled.

Niteblade

Just wait.

Google will come.

Just make sure that you have used the Google Sitemaps.

I fixed the URL friendly option on my site and submitted a valid sitemap to google yesterday..
I've had google bots all over my site today.. so I guess it should be indexed soon :)

ramystyle

Perhaps someone can help me on this...

Now that my site is search engine URL friendly, i tried to simulate how google bot sees my site.. Unfortunately, it sees links not as friendly..

I noticed that since I put URL FRIENDLY, my links look something like this:

http://multimontreal.com/index.php/board,5.0.html

I noticed that search engines cuts the html part of the link and sees it like this:

http://multimontreal.com/index.php/board,5

I think this is due to the period placed after the 5... How can I make bots read the full URL (including the html)

This links shows you how google bot sees my forum.. Move your mouse on the links and you will see what I mean..

On your site map, included links to the boards and all the way down to larger threads.
This will help google roll deeper into your site.
I also linked the threads to other parts of the site.
Worked for me, mabye work for you?
Good luck

One way to increase your index-ability is to have links in and links out. Ask your members to post links on their blogs, that will help big time.

Also if your site relates to other sites that are indexed on google, having a link on there would increase your chances too.

Tip: in SMF there exists a "news box" facility. You can edit that as admin. On our forum, we put quite a lot of external links in that box, including a link to google itself. That certainly helps. Another thing: see that your forum is referred to on onther websites. A google bot scanning these website will land more often at your place.

I do have a lot of links back (about 10 and more)..
My problem is that I am not being indexed because of the ugly URLs.. Now I have PHPSESSID=3896e56cf0e0a2b1d15f9d83813ee16e;www  appearing on my link when a guest comes in.. I'm sure google doesn't like these urls..

Ben_S

Google doesn't like them, which is why 1.1 checks the user agent and if it's a known SE spider, doesn't include the session ID.

Are you talking about 1.1 final ?
Because I have 1.1 RC3...

You're not doing anything wrong, your site is just too new.

Focus on your link exchange and let G do the rest. Indexing a site in Googe can take up to 6 months

Isn't this a language problem as well..

The forum indicated is mixed French/English content about Montreal.

Maybe that somehow affects language-dependent ordering in Google's database.. give it lower prio when language is unclear from automatic detection..

For some reason I get the following error..

Warning: main(../SSI.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/daplayaz/public_html/thesportsstop/forums/sitemaps/sitemaps/index.php on line 5

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required '../SSI.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/daplayaz/public_html/thesportsstop/forums/sitemaps/sitemaps/index.php on line 5

I'm using 1.1 Final.
