An idea... Maybe we can have restrictions based on time/posts on certain functions... like PMs, making a topic, posting links, etc.

IE User X registeres <insert date here>.

He cannot send a PM, make a topic, or post a link until <insert number of days here> days have passed.

With the use of post count based membergroups and the permissions system you can make it so that you need a certain amount of posts before you can do all of those things you mentioned except posting a link.

I am looking for this, as well.

Unfortunately... you cannot limit specific BBC code via permissions under post count.

Are you talking about with this mod? http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=449. If not, I imagine that mod would work with post count groups as well as regular groups.

That mod, even though installed correctly and i tried virtually everything... disables all BBC code no matter what is checked/unchecked for all members except mods and admins :(

Well then you probably have an issue with the mod. The mod in itself appears to do what you want, so I don't think many people would write an entirely new mod for this just because one user is having a problem with it or even all users are. The best path in my opinion would be posting in the mod's support topic asking for help. The mod author can hopefully address your issue, and if it is on your end, find out what is wrong, and if it is a bug with the mod, fix it. :)

i wonder if there might be a conflict between the option under "posts and topics" - for BBC code... if i should turn that OFF then give people the permissions in the membergroups?  bah

i'll try it

With regards to limiting what new users can put in their signature. (images or links)
see http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=921

^^ i'm not as concerned with signatures as i am posts.

Had a couple of spammers recently posting images i'd rather not have my users see.  Was trying to disable the IMG bbc code for users under X amount of posts. :(

I don't think it would be all that difficult to accomplish actually. I'll look at it tonight when I get home.

Is there a way to DISABLE "signatures" AND "personal text" ENTIRELY, always and FOR EVERYONE? I hate signatures and personal text, they are so pointless and distracting when reading a topic. Leave them in profiles, but DO NOT display them in the topic area below each user's message!
The administrator should be able to disable that entirely and for everyone, so nothings distracts one from the TOPIC.

codenaught

To disable the signature in posts, you can find the code in Themes/<theme_name>/Display.template.php:

// Show the member's signature?
if (!empty($message['member']['signature']) && empty($options['show_no_signatures']))
echo '
<hr width="100%" size="1" class="hrcolor" />
<div class="signature">', $message['member']['signature'], '</div>';

And remove it.

There is also a profile setting in Look and Layout Prerences and you can set the default value for it not to show in Admin / Themes and Layout / Reset Options, however this will still allow members to undo this setting individually.
