Moving SMF

Hi, I have two forums Smf forums setup, one has just gone public and the other is a test forum. The problem is that due to the nature of our forum we are concerned that our private side of the forum may get hacked as we have sensitive data there a solution would be to use the test forum and in hindsight we should have done that but it has been done now. What I need to know, desperately, is that could the database be copied and renamed so that the test forum could use it and we could then delete the public section? The two forums are on the same server, use seperate databases although there is nothing important in the test one. My idea if possible would be to copy the public database and rename it to the same as the test database, perhaps deleting the test one first? and then set up the test forum boards the same as the public side, would that work? Any advice would be much appreciated.
