Disable Guests viewing email address

TXSherry

Howdy,
here's how I'm trying to set my board up

guests: can view topics & polls & attachments in the General Forum (and its boards  currently announcements & general)

members (almost everyone else, even special member groups): can do most everything in General/General, and mostly just vote in polls on announcements

Admin & Global moderators do what they usually do, no change in function.

So, it's basically a closed board, but I want John Q Public to be able to VIEW the general board, and not much else.
Right now the guest can see my two users' (me and testcharacter-myhusband)  Profiles.

I've disabled it, though.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

ps: loving the changes from yasbbse!

Tomer

Disable the viewing of all boards exept General to everyone exept John Q Public.

TXSherry

Hmm.  That's what I have.   I have the set-up setup correctly.  Or I believe, I still have to test.  Yet, I cannot do the following:
Right now the guest can see my two users' (me and testcharacter-myhusband)  Profiles.

I guess I should restate as that the guest can see our email addresses.  I'd rather the guest not be able to see anything at all, but at the very least I would like them not to see email addresses.

Do not reveal email details of members to guests

That is 'ticked'.  But still my guests can see my email addy.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Did you perform an upgrade?

Can you try a detailed version check to ensure all files are indeed RC1?

-[Unknown]

TXSherry

No, not an upgrade.  I just
* downloaded the file from the downloads page (zipped version),
* extracted to a subdir on my hard drive.
* via phpmyadmin I added a Database,
* and a dbuser,
* gave that dbuser full rights to the newly created database
* FTP > created a new dir on my server pflame/forum
* FTP > moved extracted files from hard drive to server
* browser, ran >pflame.org/forum/install.php
* followed instructions
* FTP> deleted install.php
* making modifications via interface only at this point.  [Still haven't made Grunge's suggestion to disallow certain BB tags, because I want to make sure that I'm doing everything the right way first, before I start hacking at the code.]
* asking questions here in forum :)

LainaaCan you try a detailed version check to ensure all files are indeed RC1?

I'm a brand new, brand SPANKING new user to this forum and code.  And tiptoeing my way around.  I'd have to say, No to the above request, simply because I don't know how!  Give me instructions and I'd be happy to do so!

[Unknown]

Well, if you just installed from scratch I would have to assume you are not suffering from any version conflicts.  Sorry.

Can I have temporary admin access to your forum to do some testing?

-[Unknown]

TXSherry

Yep, I'd be happy to!

if I [pm] you, it goes to "Unknown" ... will that still go to the right person?

Yes, or you can put "[Unknown]" or even [email protected] - all three work ;).

I just checked the permissions and disallowed viewing profiles to guests - that worked for me.

I'll look into the global "hide emails from guests" issue.

Edit:
* Previously, if you didn't allow people to hide their emails, but you hid emails from guests, the emails would not be hidden - fixed. (Load.php, Profile template, InstantMessage template, Display template)

I'm sorry, I don't understand.  It sounds like I should download those 4 files which you've made a fix to.  Is this correct?   If so, where do I find them?  (I've looked on the downloads page.)

Thank you again, I do not wish to be difficult.  Just attempting to set it up to best suit our usergroups.

LeeH

I went and checked your board out.

As "guest"  I couldn't access your profile, or see email addresses.

Me thinks you're all fixed!

TXSherry

OMG!!  :P  ::dances::

Thanks LeeH and thanks [unknown]!   I thought he was saying what changes I needed to make and I guess he made them for me?

SMF rocks!!!!!    Ok, maybe I'm too old to say that ;)

Simple Machines Forums, its developers, support team, and community, is absolutely one of the tightest, most amazing, dedicated and goal-driven group.  Thank you for your help.  uhm... you rock!! *g*

I will "give back" as soon as I have something to give.  Promise!  *crosses heart*

Sherry, the very excited!

LeeH

LainaaThanks LeeH and thanks [unknown]!

Whooooaaah!!!  All I did is take a peek.  Appears like [Unknown] did all the magic! ;)

Hello, I have just recently installed SMF at hxxp:www.protilt.net/smf [nonactive] . my question is: is there a way to hide ALL emaiil addresses from everyone except admin? I say this as with more and more email harvesters out there it is getting harder to protect your members.

I am running the newest version 1.02 and i have the Helios Theme running.

Well, yes, you can do that by simply doing what you've done; not allowing access from guests.  There's also a "Spam-me-not" mod, which might be what you want.

-[Unknown]

Louis (CSpotkill)

Yes, I highly recommend Spam-me-not :p

(But don't listen to me. since I wrote it. *laughs*)
