SSI pulling top topic by board

I am trying to find out if I can use SSI to display the top topics for a certain board.  Like if I have a frontpage block with a graphical link to a specific board (say "General Discussion"), can I have underneath that picture a short synopsis of the top topics for that particular board? If I can, then how do I do it?
