<Solved> Joomla SMF 404 Errors

Running Joomla! 1.0.12 and SMF 1.1.2 and the Orstio/SMF bridge

Just doing some testing having imported a forum from phpBB and having issues with 404 errors within SMF

I've got standard Joomla SEO enabled
I've placed an ErrorDocument 404 in the .htaccess file which points to a static content item which I've made into a custom 404

Links inside the SMF that relate to the old phpbb forum end up with phpBB fatal and class errors
Some of the Joomla 404 errors end up with ... you need to be registered to read this content ... errors.

The standard response I've got is to install 404 SEF ... which doesn't work with Joomla / SMF combo

The ErrorDocument 404 in the .htaccess file only works within Joomla ... any suggestions

Makes no difference

Going to the old url www.sitename.com/phpbb gives me the error

Not Found
The requested URL /phpBB/index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

ErrorDocument 404 index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3504&Itemid=95

should have the full url

ErrorDocument 404 http://www.sitename.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3504&Itemid=95
