Auto notify always on in RC1?

I am the admin of our community board which runs RC1 for some weeks now. I suppose to have found a bug (or at least a strange behaviour, hehe).

Some days after updating to RC1 I did a "Reset member specific options for all members." for our default theme (which is modified Classic theme, only color changes, redone after updating to have a nice RC1 theme). I set the "Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic." default option to "on", just because this sounded good to me.

Again some days later, I changed my mind and wanted to switch this off again -- but this time only in my personal profile, not to confuse my users to much by tweaking the board defaults too often.

So I went to Profile -> Notifications and Email -> Edit Profile where I found the option "Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic". I switched it to "off", clicked "Save Settings" -- and after the request was done, it was back on?! No matter what I did, I wasn't able to switch the auto notifcation off... hmpf.

I searched all the forum sources and did find the string "auto_notify" only in the default options and various templates (again, only in the form "default_options[auto_notify]", not as a user option). But I did not find any "auto_notify" not in the code to save this setting somehow (supposed to be function ModifyProfile2() in Sources/Profile.php.

What's wrong here? Some upcoming feature not (yet) in the code, but in the templates? ;)

Just double checked with a RC1 install and the activation or deactivation of that notification option works fine for me.

Please double check if all your files are consistently on RC1. The forum sources and the theme files as well.

Try turning the option off for all members on your custom theme, and using the default theme.

This was odd behavior, and has already been fixed for RC2.  The workaround is to only set these options on the actual *SMF* default theme. (meaning, index.php?theme=1)
