RSS Authentication

Since SMF doesn't have a way to authenticate yourself externally to view protected boards in an RSS reader, I thought it would be nice to be able to do this.

I know that some readers allow for http authentication.  would it be hard to add a way to flag the feed for http authentication? perhaps by adding an argument to the URL (auth=http).  That way you could have a relatively secure way of viewing hidden boards in an external reader.  This wouldn't pass your username and password through the url, and still wouldn't be completely secure, though using https would maybe work to keep things a bit more secure.

Maybe when I have time to look into the code, I'll see about making my own mod to allow this, but I'm not too familiar with SMF's inner workings to know how easy or possible this would be to implement, and I have a feeling that some of you know this sort of thing better.

I'd find authenticated RSS feeds really useful for driving forum member registrations instead of unknown hundreds of "lazy" guests simply pulling the content into their RSS readers without ever contributing to that content.
