Nice option! Now I can mark a topic unread so I can come back to it later! Good job on that one :)

EDIT: Maybe the option to mark a whole board unread is a bit much though :P

Anguz

There's the option to mark a whole board read. :P

I think that these two features, Mark as Read and Unread, should have a confirmation dialog when used for a board or the whole forum in the case of Mark as Read.

I don't think that when used in a topic such a precaution is needed since a mistake is easily fixable, but when applied to tons of topics, not having an "undo" button certainly calls for at least a "are you sure?"

Just something that occured to me now that I thought about these features.

Yea I think we've all done that! A confirmation would be a nice safety net...especially cos the "All Unread Topics" link is right beside it!

but would it be a nuisance every time you want to use the button...? I'd say the ratio of accidentally pressing it, to purposely pressing it is probably like 1:100 or something!!!

& Added $txt['mark_unread_confirm'] to confirm mark unread. (index language file)
* Added javascript confirmation when marking a whole board unread. (MessageIndex template)

Just notice this feature today , IMHO I just find this too much .. what I prefer rather is a bookmark this post.

but Extra feature will not hurt :)
Really sorry .. real life is demanding my full attention .. will be back soon hopefully :)

I don't know if it was meant to be like this, but the "Mark Unread" button is only with the Print, Reply, Send Topic, etc. buttons on the top, not on the bottom.

[Unknown]

Right, this is because we're getting to wide in 800x600.

smaller buttons?
How? Only the first two letter? ::) Remember the other languages.

I guess he meant the whole big ones Reply , Notify .. to make them smaller.
but then there is the option of using text instead of buttons .. come to think of it , an option in the profile maybe!

What I meant was to reduce the size of the graphics in the buttons and make those buttons smaller.  If the size is beginning to be a problem, that would be a viable solution.

I can understand that some people might like this feature. However imho it is now a little late to introduce new buttons for 1. final. In addition the way how the button is implemented looks not well because the button is much to big. If it must be implemented at any price then it should only be there for example a icon without text only such that it takes less space (attachment).

In addition the button should be placed in a more logical position: where is a markread.gif, the markunread.gif should be right after. Where is no markread.gif, the markunread.gif should be at the end.

In order to save additional space one could also move this button: addpoll.gif is for me an admin button and belongs to the bottom row of other admin buttons (where move topic, lock topic etc. are).

Hmm... okay... marking an entire board unread is just... absolutely useless... quite honestly, I think this is going to be used <1 times per user in their lifetime on a forum... What practical use could something like this be to anybody?

[Unknown]

Marking a topic unread is horribly useful.  But, there are times when you might want to mark a board unread... so might as well allow it too. (goes hand in hand...)

I agree with [Unknown]... and if you want to disable it, just edit the template and remove the button. :)

I *can* see an arguement for it not marking every topic in the board unread, and just showing the board as new, though - thoughts?

Will certainly be gone from my template when RC2 is available, can see no reason for it at all on a topic level or board level.

In fact, I'd love this to have an uninstall button.

If I were to use it on a board, which I wouldn't, I'd not expect it to mark all topics within that board to be marked as unread.

Course it is, remove it from messageindex.template.php and display.template.php before uploading, will take 2 mins at most.

I think he'd rather have:
[ ] Enable and show 'Mark as Read' buttons in boards?
[ ] Enable and show 'Mark as Read' buttons in threads?

But then again, that would be a seporation hardly ever used, as nobody will ever enable the Mark as Read in boards...
