ban_items from the table smf_ban_items (example, depends what your db is called) must have a whitelist built in @

...because for example there is no way to allow only @hotmail.com emails to register at the moment :( :'( :-\ :o

This can be extremely useful for allowing people to register with only like their ISP email, for local forums and such.

To create a mod for this would be suicidal :s & to manually edit the code, is good only for that exact forum ...

Is there no way of doing this, or have I missed it? XD

Err... Give people time to respond. For now, no... There is a blacklist modification and, remember the difference between mods and features. But in the future plan on 24 hours before responding to your own post as doing so sooner is considered rude.

SMF vs. Godzilla? Who do you think will win?

Thanks for your reply, please excuse me for doubleposting! xD Here is what I was trying to say, in a more articulate manner..:)

*Ban by IP/Hostname/Email Address WHITELIST* is urgently needed, so that *@hotmail.com may be banned, but [email protected] can still use the forum as intended. Most other forum (and CMS, like Drupal) systems already have similar if not the same (actually better) functions as stated in this comment.

In response to your post, I honestly haven't the slightest idea of "the difference between mods and features" or exactly what connection it might have with this thread. Also, here's what I got when searching @ http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/:

LainaaYou searched for: blacklist No mods were found with those search parameters

Regards, Vladimir.

Thank you for explaining what you meant. The difference between a mod and a feature? Well, it isn't really that clear but a mod is something that not everyone wants or needs while a feature is something that needs to be included because it improves the core functions of the forum. In your case, now that I understand better, I would say that this appears to be a good idea for a feature.

I would really like a whitelist feature as well. I am troubled at my forum with banned people who return with a proxy and register again.

I would like to whitelist the hostnames of all the popular ISP's in my country and having to activate other accounts. That saves me loads of time because now the only way to block proxys is to block every proxy in the world (which is off course undoable) of having to activate each and every new account on my forum.
