Dynamic Meta Description

First of all I don't give a damn about google's site: results,
BUT users DO look at description displayed below link and "Welcome, Guest. Please login or register. Did you[..]" does not look very good. My users say that it just scares people off, while it should provide extra info and lure them in. Plain and simple 180 chars from the first post would be enough.
Meta keywords would be just a bonus and it could be generated with js clientside when new thread is being posted, but is not that important.

Reading some of your posts in this forum, it seems as though you're really geared for SEF/SEO... do you use Joomla or Mambo?  Have you looked at the SEO4SMF mod?

If the former, you may want to consider OpenSEF and using the extension I created for Orstio's bridge to give SMF nice urls... see a demo at http://www.airridetalk.com/forum.  I've also modified the source of SMF and Joomla slightly so the description tag includes the first XX chars from the first post as well, which really isn't too difficult to do without Joomla.

If you aren't running Joomla or Mambo, I'd take a look at SEO4SMF.  While I'm not particularly fond of all of the code changes it makes just for SEF urls, it may be worth a look to you.

The default meta description is actually the page title. Google recently started overriding many meta descriptions. You might find that changing it into something longer can help though.

It is located in:

Themes / default / index.template.php

Obviously you will need to change default to something else if you use a different theme

Could you give me some extra info on that?
