This mod allows you to have new topics on your forum syndicated to one or more NNTP newsgroups.

History/Features

Version 1.0

• Updated file versioning to work w/ SMF 1.1.3.
• Same functionality as version 0.1.

Version 0.1

• Enable/disable the entire NNTP Syndicate system with ease.
• Post to an open newserver (port 119) or secure newserver (port 563 w/ authentication).
• Each board may post to it's own set of newsgroup(s).
• Customize the text used when posting to the newsgroup.  Allows you to embed the subject, body and/or link of the forum topic into the post.

I also like the sound of this!

There are a lot of interesting newsgroups around. This mod appears to offer a convenient interface between SMF and access to them.

I'd also like to see a demo if possible before installing though as it's a fairly significant feature.

It's a worthwhile project and a useful addition imho.

While not an official demo, my test forum with this mod installed is at http://server.daniel15.com/smf/demo2/ (not sure how long I'll keep that up for, my sole purpose of it was to test this mod, and I may remove it soon). All topics posted here are posted to also posted to the alt.test newsgroup.

Glad you're liking my NNTP Syndicate mod.   

Thanks Daniel15 for allowing the SMF community to try out your un-official demo, and for putting up the screen shots.   

Jadz, I'd like to implement some of those features in the next version of the NNTP Syndicate mod.  Not sure when that will be, but hopefully soon.  If anyone is interested in helping out with adding addtional features, please PM me.

I can't apply the mod on smf 1.1.3.

I get this message

The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.

Try the new version (1.0) I just uploaded.  Needed to make some versioning adjustments to the package info file.  I tested it on my SMF 1.1.3 forum and it worked like a charm.

Hmmmmmm.....

Not sure why you are getting Test failed messages for the ManageBoards.php and Subs-Boards.php files.  I just checked out the NNTP Syndicate v1.0 modifications for those files and they work fine w/ the base SMF 1.1.3 versions.

Have you made any other adjustments to those files (either manually or through the installation of other mods)?

Glad to hear it works for you.

At the moment, the NNTP Syndicate mod only works one way (forum -> newsgroup).  I'd like to add the functionality to do the reverse but at the moment I'm just way too busy.  Perhaps down the line, or if someone else would like to help out they can contact me.

Will it be available for SMF v1.1.4?

It won't be available until I get some free time to code it.  Which I don't think will happen for quite some time.

No new functionality has been added, but version 1.1 has been released.  Basically it just allows the mod to be used with SMF 1.14.
