 Could I do something like this?

<?PHP
include("/forum");
?>

and place this in a 3 column layout with the forum in the middle?  im not very familiar with coding.  I just use the scripts and create websites using photoshop and imageready and "READY MADE" php scripts.  Just wondering if this would work.

No, it won't really work like that..... you'd have to modify the templates anyway to fix the html.

Works.

Just that maybe, but he was talking about outputting stuff beforehand.  It will also have adverse affects on other things, like attachments, if you make it use that URL.

Thought he had more in mind kind of 3 layer website and display the forum in 1 layer.

So would create 3 included of witch one is the forum, as long he aint messing with the rest it should work. Not that iam a pro in such tho  ;)

you should not employ this method to do this -- it *WILL* break forum functionality.

The best method would be to edit the theme's index.template.php to 'emulate' your site's look with added divs to contain your board, then including the necessary header/menu/footer files and such.

I use this method at my site and it allows SMF to still fully function.
