You could find the code on your forum that displays the current days birthdays and run a mail script on those users email address's... otherwise you are going to need to have cron jobs running...

The mail queue in 2.0 has an email-on-birthday setting which you can turn on and off as you please.

Has automatic email members on birthday been featured in SMF 2.0? Honestly I don't like to install mods or manually change the codes, as it will make upgrading to newer SMF a headache. I would hope to use all default SMF features as much as possible.

I did receive SMF email during my birthday, I hope this can be a default feature in SMF 2.0 rather than a mod.

While not really part of the mail queue -- it is part of a different functionality -- the sending of birthday emails was added to SMF 2.0.  However by default it does not do so and must be turned on.
