Profile Picture

Does anyone know if there is the ability to add a picture to a user profile?  Right now, people are just resizing their own pictures for avatars, but having the option to u/l a forum profile pic would be great.

I'm confused. Do you mean upload a picture that is just shown in their profile, and not their avatar? At the moment a members avatar is their profile pic. You can set it up so people can either use "stock" avatars that they can choose from, upload a picture to your server to use as their avatar, or link to a picture on another site.

upload a photo to your server?  yeah, look in the settings under avatars in the admin.

I think he means a picture for the profile and one different for avatar.

Pictures for profiles are usually meant to display full-size photo's of a person... and have an avatar as well... I've seen this being used quite a bit on forums that didn't involve technical stuff.. dunno why that is

Maybe I was a little confusing in my post, but I would have to say that Burpee's explanation is right on.

I'm talking about a seperate picture that user's can upload and display only in their profile, in addition to their avatar (which would show up in the general forum and their profile).

What I did in the past, was create a board for member pictures were they'd post them. If you add an extra field in the profile for the picture attached in that board, you could make them show in the profile summary page.

Here's how you can add fields to the profile: Creating custom profile fields in SMF. Use the simple text field, members can add the URL to the attached pic in the member pics board.

I know it's not the perfect solution, but it'd doable with what you have now.

I would also like a profile image option. It's really the only thing other than custom fields that I miss in this forum (although it looks like adding custom fields isn't so difficult).

I'm curious if anyone has managed to do something like this.  I run a small town forum and users tend to use RL pics of themselves (albeit VERY small) for their avatars.  Because of this, many users would like the ability to see a larger version of this pic in the user's profile -- similar to how vBulletin allows pictures uploaded into their user profiles.  So you'd have an avatar (80x80) and a pic (300x300).
