i was using phpbb before simple machine and there was a mod available where you could export the latest topics so it would be displayed anywhere using an include.  it could be done with javascript, xml, it was sweet.  i've searched for that mod here but i can't seem to find it.  does it exist?  if so, please point me to it... if not, please make it!

Could you give an example syntax for use outside the SMF directory please?

example, if I wanted to include Today's events in my WordPress sidebar, exactly how would I code it?

(With one example I can tweak to suit whatever I need)

Thanks

Hi

Yup I did and couldn't get them to work

It wasn't until I looked at the SMF docs (on this site) that I discovered why

The ssi_examples file doesn't tell you about the include that's needed at the top of the html
But even the docs page doesn't explain if it should be in the header.php or in the page.php itself

All very confusing and I've put it on the shelf for when I have time to play around and experiment

Sorry - just being honest

Yup - doesn't work

Have done EXACTLY what it says in the PHP examples file - and got this when trying to view the WordPress Blog -

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 77824 bytes) in /home/*****/public_html/board/Sources/Load.php on line 425

...( the ***** is my hosting account name so I'm not publishing it in a public forum)

line 425 of Load.php is -
if (SMF != 'SSI' && !isset($_REQUEST['xml']) && (!isset($_REQUEST['action']) || $_REQUEST['action'] != '.xml') && empty($_SESSION['ID_MSG_LAST_VISIT']) && (empty($modSettings['cache_enable']) || ($_SESSION['ID_MSG_LAST_VISIT'] = cache_get_data('user_last_visit-' . $ID_MEMBER, 5 * 3600)) === null))

That line 425 is unmodified vanilla SMF 1.1.4 so no idea why the SSI calls are crashing out WordPress.

The crashing out happened immediately after inserting the include at the top of the WordPress header.php file, and both before and after adding the php tag for the relevant SMF data being called

= complete show stopper!  I had to rip out the SMF lines from WordPress to recover the blog.

Anyone got any clues?

this particular error is a memory allocation error.  what it means is that the scripts in combination together cause your account to exceed the limit (seemingly 8MB here) of memory use.

Basically they have allotted your account 8MB of memory, and it is trying to use more than that.

Yup - understand that much, though don't understand why

The install for WordPress and SMF combined isn't 8MB and the combined databases are under 1MB, so there has to be some other issue at play here .... e.g. bad code

I'd really like to get this working but every time I try, it crashes the blog and server CPU load goes through the roof (could end up with the account suspended if I try it too much).
