Can I rename 'child boards'?

I know this is unlikely, but is there a way I can rename the term "child boards" to "sub-forums".

I just think it sounds better. :/

Open Themes/default/languages/index.english.php and look for:

$txt['parent_boards'] = 'Child Boards';

Ok, thanks. :)

I too want to change this board - I found the folder and clicked to open the correct file and even found where to make the change.. just checking first with this probably stupid question....

Because I use godaddy - I have to do this through ftp:

When I clicked to open, it asked what program I wanted to use so I selected note pad. I made the change there and so now do I save the page as the same name as what it appears as in the folder and upload the page? Then remove the txt extension - that I know to do if this is the right way.

My forum with over 180 boards is ready to go except for this - I don't want to screw it up now!! Thanks!

1. Download file thru' FTP
2. Make a copy of the file as a backup copy (in case anything goes wrong)
3. Open the downloaded file to edit

I don't use NotePad cos' it doesn't show the breaks properly and messes up when I save. I use WordPad instead. WordPad will keep the .php extension when you save.

4. Upload the edited file thru' FTP.

If anything goes wrong, upload the backup copy to replace the edited file.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Well darn I finally got up the nerve to try it - with the site opening only hours away - and when I clicked the file it automatically opens with notepad without giving me the choice...

:(      soo I am off to find out how to get it to open with wordpad now and if anyone can tell me in here I would be thankful

I chanced it with a note pad file, renamed and it worked ok ( so far I see no problems ) thanks again for the help.  ;D

For the developers consideration _ in this family style forum full of non forum experts the word child might have been confusing because we actually have child boards ie those that are set up only for children. When I first started using SMF, I found that title confusing myself.

Love the program though!  :D

You made a point ;) Maybe you could start a thread and feedback to the developers here:

Right-click on a php file, select "open with" and change it to wordpad is you want.

SafariWoman

I did that and thanks for the tip - after working on computers for over ten years and mastering dozens of soft ware programs - sometimes its the simple things that get crowded out of the memory bank lol  ;D

Open Themes/default/languages/index.english.php and look for:

$txt['parent_boards'] = 'Child Boards';

Does doing this change any other settings? or just the text, only I notice child boards are named in other parts of the code

Hi Glowbot,

S-Ace has made all this so much simpler with his mod...

Note though you may need to do manual edits for Yabb and Babylon themes
