As I run a football forum, it would be quite helpful if I could have the members' team supported displayed above the avatar on their posts.

It already has:

Gender:
Posts:

How do I get this to say:

Gender:
Posts:
Team Supported:

Also, as there is a main site... how do I create a forum that simply re-directs members back to the main site? I know you can do this on other forum software that I've used in the past, but is there anyway to do this on SMF?

use the custom profile fields mod...

when you say "create a forum"  do you mean create a board or create a button?


making new Buttons is explained in the SMF Docs site.
making a redirect BOARD is an available mod package...


just a note: a forum is this whole community part of the site, it has categories which have boards which have sub-boards and topics which have replies
topics and rpelies are collectively known as posts.

You can also use an html link as the board name.
So use something like <a href="http://linktomainsite.com">Go to the main site</a> as a name for a board.
