I think adding AJAX would be a great addition to SMF.

It would save users of a forum time and also use less bandwidth which would result in cheaper costs for the owner.

Some things AJAX would be good for.

  • Quick replies
  • Edition posts
  • Many of the admin functions
  • A lot more

What makes you think that SMF doesn't implement AJAX?

Have you checked quick edit (a.k.a. modify inline)? ;)

hint, see the pen and paper icon next to your post? :P  Clicky.

I wouldn't personally mind seeing some more AJAX but i also don't want to see it overdone.

But it might use more server resources resulting in larger costs...

I like SMF's current AJAX features (previewing a topic, and also editing) :D. Although, a (vBulletin-style?) AJAX quick-reply would be nice, too :)

Never noticed the "pecil and paper" icon there at the bottom of my posts before. Thanks for pointing it out.

I'm not saying it should be overdone. I just think it would be nice to have it for quick things as a the quick edited I just now noticed. It would also be nice if you was deleted individual posts in a topic or a quick reply. :)

next to IPB, SMF is one of the heaviest users of Ajax in the bbs grouping.

ajax is bad if overused.  It shouldn't be used just for 'wow' effect but rather for important functionality.

Thats my two cents.  No refunds.
