SMF should show topics which are related to the topic subject. The results could be shown at the bottom of each topic.

yeah, something like that should be implemented into the default SMf configuration.

It shouldn't be basic feature, which is not required at all. Let's have a look here, more than 200000+ posts are available, once you start a topic/open a topic, there will be huge load on server for big communities.

Isn't related topics mod a bit of a resource hog? How about a button performing automated search?

Automated search is not a big thing. When you click on a button it searches using topic name as keywords.

related topics is a bit of a resource hog.
But there isnt a less intensive way to do it.

I suppose you could make it a bit lighter if modified it to ONLY search the subject and NOT the body.
