Limiting Views on Smilies

When a user posts, I don't want them to see every smiliey there is.  I'd like to show the first 10 in the collection, then display a link that says (something like) "Show additional Smilies", where it would do just that.  I have nearly 300 smilies in my forum and I don't want to make every user display them all each time when posting.

Any ideas?

Show the others in a popup. (It's going to be a LOT of ticking and selecting as I can't seem to find a select all option in there.)
